Continuum of decision making - light to high tech hierarchy

First begin with examining this

It is important for parents to understand the “language” of assistive technology so they can be informed advocates for their child’s technology needs. The following glossary of terms can help parents and educators learn about the kinds of assistive technologies that are currently available and how they can be used. At the end of this glossary, you can find product details as well as photo credits for each of the images used.

Now that you have a basic idea of the wide range of options, it is important to understand the hierarchy of decision-making, from least restrictive to most restrictive device option. (i.e. white boards, simple switches, picture
symbols systems, PECS) and high tech AAC/AT (dynamic displays, auditory scanning systems,
iPads, text to speech)
